I am really looking forward to a full, normal week at school. I've missed the kids and it was awesome to spend some time with them again. I was able to wrap some things up last week and we are now ready to move on to some new things.
In reading we will be moving onto our next unit which spends some time on how to figure out tricky words. Because we aren't quite done with our non-fiction unit, I will be using non-fiction texts to start this unit and then part way switch back to fiction books.
In writing we are going to be heading back to small moment writing where our focus will be on looking at other authors as our mentors. The big push will be to add in feelings, the five senses, and dialogue. We will also be looking at what our favorite authors do and add those things to our own writing. We have done some of these things earlier in the year, but we are circling back and going into some more depth with these concepts.
In math we just took our test and will take our pre-test next week and jump right into the next unit. Unit 5 will be an extension of unit 4. We will be continuing our work with teen numbers, but this time in story problems. We will also be looking for missing partners with teen problems instead of just a missing total.
In social studies we will be wrapping up our unit on geography/maps this week and then spending some time talking about some famous people that helped shaped our past. People like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, President Lincoln, Ruby Bridges.
A few reminders.
1. Father/Daughter bowling forms went home on Friday. Please make sure to turn those in ASAP if you are planning on going.
2. Valentines Party is on Thursday. If you are sending in valentines, please have your child bring them in no later than Thursday. We will be passing them out and opening them at the party. We will also be decorating cookies and doing a science experiment. It will be super low key so I will not be needing any help. But, if you still want to pop in, please let me know so I can let Deb in the front office know. Thanks!
3. The date of our field trip will be on Thursday, May 30 so mark your calendars. More details to come on our trip to John Ball Zoo.
4. PE apparel forms are due tomorrow.
5. Kids Heart Challenge forms are due February 28.
I think that it is for now! I hope you all have a great week!
