This week we worked really hard on our transition times and having the kids take over routines without reminders. This means, for example, that when I say "happy reading" the kids know they need to take their book tub to a quiet spot in the room and get started right away with their reading. Another example is when we come in from lunch recess the kids put their coats and things away, go to get a white board and expo marker, and head back to their seats. They can get started on our daily math routine until it is time to begin our math time together. They are doing a fantastic job of taking over the routines without needing reminders from me.
Next week we will be wrapping up unit 2 in math and will be taking a test on Wednesday. I feel that the kids are ready to show what they have learned. Monday and Tuesday will be more practice of subtraction and writing those subtraction equations to gain more confidence for our test.
In reading this coming week our focus will be checking ourselves as we read. Last week we really worked hard on reading strategies that will help us with unknown words (short and long vowel sounds, digraphs and blends, and seeing small words in bigger words). We will continue this practice as we talk about checking ourselves as we read.
In writing our overall focus this week will be on making sure that our writing is readable. We will talk about spelling, spacing, capital letters, and end punctuation. We will also continue to work at putting in details in our stories to make them exciting to read.
A few reminders:
1. Tuesday is our Turkey Trot. I'll be out there helping and cheering those who signed up on!
2. Our Halloween party is on Thursday from 2:30 - 3:30. You may come and help us celebrate if you would like.
3. Thursday is also our school skating party from 6:30 - 8:30.
4. Friday there is no school for students.
5. You should have gotten your child's conference slip home on Friday. Please send those back ASAP. I can't wait to meet with all of you at conferences and spend time talking about your child.
Lastly, your kids have been using the MobyMax program at school. I want to say a huge thank you to our Parents Club for providing this for our school. If you would like, your child can also work on this at home as well. Here is the link to MobyMax. https://www.mobymax.com/signin Our school code is MI2934 and the kids know their usernames and passwords (their first name for both). A few of our students need to use their first name with a 1 behind it for both. These kids should know who they are. If you can't login, please let me know.
Hope you are enjoying the sunshine on this beautiful Sunday!
