Just a quick update on where we are at with curriculum. In Math we began our new unit in comparison. We are learning about collecting data, organizing data, graphing this data, and asking and answering questions about the data. Some key terms that we are learning is how many more and how many fewer, and comparison bars. You will see this on the homework that comes home this weekend. Speaking of math homework, I will probably send home a couple more pages this weekend for some extra practice. This is a shorter unit and we will be taking our test next, probably on Wednesday.
In writing we have started our unit on Poetry. This is such a fun unit to teach and for kids to play around with. I just love writing poetry so it is always so cool for me to watch kids try their hand at it and see what they come up with. We begin by reading lots of different poetry as we try to define what poetry is. We will also be looking at simple, everyday things with a poet's eye and write what we see. We will take the next couple of weeks to study poetry.
In reading we re continuing at looking across genres. This week we are looking at books that fit in with our citizenship unit for social studies. Please continue to read with your kids at home every day or close to every day. I know that with spring comes some spring sports and our schedules get a bit busier. Just a reminder that we need to be reading at a level J by the end of the year so I want to make sure the kiddos are reading every day at home :)
This may be my last post until the end of spring break. Spring break begins on Friday, April 1 (we do not have school that day) and we come back to school on Monday, April 11.
A big thank you to Selene and her mom for bringing in a St. Patrick's day snack!
The following pictures are from St. Patrick's day. Here the kids are sorting and graphing marshmallows from a small baggie of Lucky Charms. It was definitely a yummy way to do math!
