I hope that you all had a nice weekend!
This week in social studies we are going to be wrapping up our geography unit and will move on to our history unit. This is a fun unit to teach! I love showing the kids a slide show I have put together on the past decades and boy do they giggle at some of the pictures ;) We will talk about past and present as well as people in the past who been important in our history. These people will include George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, etc.
In math we are close to wrapping up our unit and we will take our test at the end of this week. We will then start our new unit the following week. I will send home some homework mid week this week just as review for the kiddos.
In reading we are continuing our non-fiction unit. This week we learned how to read non-fiction books with our partners and how to ask each other questions. We also said that we can react to what we are reading by saying things like so cool!, gross!, I didn't know that!, etc. The kids were having some fun reacting to their reading.
In writing we are continuing to practice writing How To's. The kids are doing a great job and are having fun teaching us things that they know a lot about. Most kiddos have written one How To and are working on their second. We will wrap things up in the next week or so and then move back to Small Moment stories.
On Friday, there will be an early release day for students. They will dismiss at 12:15. Also, we do not have school on Monday, February 6 due to mid winter break.
On Friday, I sent home a letter explaining a body safety presentation that we are having in first grade. The date is set for Friday, February 10. The presentation will happen in our classroom at 1:20 if you would like to come. Let me know if you have any questions.
The following are some pictures of the kids studying maps during our social studies time. Enjoy!
