There won't be much of an update academically this week because we are really wrapping everything up and not starting much new. In reading we are wrapping up with a focus on our book clubs and tying everything we learned together and getting in some good practice.
In writing we wrapped up our non-fiction stories and will have a bit of fun with some poetry over the next two weeks. Some of the kids are talking about how they write poems at home and want to bring them in to share - I love this!
In math we are wrapping up our double digit addition with a test at the beginning of this week and then we will be learning the names and values of coins - penny, nickel, dime, and quarter. This isn't on the report card, but it will give them a jump start for second grade. I will also be filling in any holes a kiddo might have and provide them extra practice.
Our caterpillars are all in chrysalis form, if you haven't heard already. I am hoping they emerge later this week and not over our long weekend! A reminder that we have Monday, May 28 off due to Memorial Day.
We will be heading off to the zoo for our field trip on Thursday! It looks like we will have good weather and that it will be warm. If you would like, you can put some suntan lotion on your child in the morning before they come to school. Please also send a cold lunch with your child the day - preferably in a paper bag that can be thrown away. Your child can also pack a snack in their pocket to eat while they walk around. It looks like we have a lot of parents attending. Please know that you can walk around with your child or another group too. If you are not able to attend, I will have your child with another student and parent. I will be walking around and connecting with all the groups and taking pictures. We will be returning to school around 1:00ish and will have popsicles once we get back to cool off a bit.
