Just a reminder that if you are going to place a book order through Scholastic book clubs to do so by December 7. If they are gifts, please let me know and I will make sure the kiddos don't see them. The link for Scholastic Book Clubs is under the resources tab and the class code is H2RKD.
In math we are working our way through story problems. We just worked on subtraction story problems and will begin practice of mixed (addition and subtraction) story problems. The next thing will be working with adding and subtracting double digits.
In reading we are still working on studying the characters in our books. We are being detectives and noticing when, how, and why our characters change. We are learning how to have these conversations with our reading partners as well. We are learning to ask "Why do you think that?" "What do you notice about the character?"
In writing we are gearing up to write our own persuasion letters this week. I am confident that the kids will take what they have learned so far and do well with practicing and honing their skills in writing their opinions and giving us reasons why we should side with them.
In social studies we continue to work on learning our economics terms and really understanding what they mean.
Please enjoy some pictures of the kids from pj day and from them working on a group project. For the group project the kids had to pretend that they were pilgrims that just came over on the Mayflower and they needed to build shelter and then discuss how they would find water and food. This project tied into our economics unit of needs and wants and then with our discussion about Thanksgiving. The kids all did an amazing job of working together and sharing their thoughts and ideas with one another. They really went above and beyond what I asked them to do and it showed in their work and their explanations to the class of how they would find food and water.
I hope you all have a great week!
