Your kiddos are working hard in school and are just trucking along so well. In reading, we are working on sharpening the tools we have for solving unknown words. We are reviewing all of our different word chunks, vowels, endings, blends, and digraphs. The kids are all working on this in their just right books and really stretching their reading. While working on these skills, we are still working on comprehension as we read.
In writing, we have returned to small moment writing and the kids are working really hard at writing stories that have juicy details, exciting beginnings, and wrapped up endings. We are using authors as mentors in our own writing. We ask, "what do we like about this book?" and then we take that and put it in our own stories.
In math we are learning how to read graphs and use graphs to find out information. We are learning how to find how many more and how many less. Next week we will be moving on to comparison bars. I know that this may sound foreign to many of you :), but I will send an example home so you know what your child is talking about. I did forget to send the kids homework home on Friday, so I will send that home tomorrow.
In social studies, we are learning about past, present, and future. On Friday we started watching an episode of Little House on The Prairie and the kids were loving it! We will finish it up tomorrow. We also talked about Martin Luther King Jr., Abraham Lincoln, and George Washington. Last week we also compared and sorted objects from the past and the present. We had a really fun conversation around some of the objects. It would be really cool if your kids could talk to their grand parents about what it was like when they were kids.

I know that we are about half way through the school year, and I just want to thank you for all of your support so far this year. You all have amazing kiddos and I am so blessed to spend my time with them. I really hope this next half of the school year goes much, much slower than the first...
Have a great week!
