Just a reminder that our valentines party is this week Tuesday. I am going to have the kids decorate bags tomorrow that will hold their valentines cards. I sent an e-mail out earlier last week, but here is a reminder of some of the details. We have 26 kiddos in our class so if your child is doing valentines, that is how many they will need :) Please have them just put their name on the valentines as it will make it easier to pass them out. If you have already put who the card is to, no worries :) The party will be really low key with just the kiddos and me. (If you were planning on stopping by, you certainly may). We will be decorating cookies, making cards for my nephew in the navy, decorating bags for Kids Food Basket, and opening our valentines. The party will be from 2:45-3:30.
We are beginning a new unit in math this week. This unit will cover graphing and comparing data on a graph. The kids will be learning how to determine how many more, how many less, and how to fill in data on a graph. This unit can sometimes be tricky for kids, but it is also a lot of fun!
We are also beginning a new unit in reading this week. The unit will focus on circling back around to figuring out tricky words and really working hard at using strategies to help us. We will also focus on how we can check in as we are reading to make sure the book is making sense to us.
In writing we began a new unit last week. This unit will bring us back to small moment writing, which the kids are super excited about. We are reading some really great books and discussing what the writer did that we really liked. We can then take these ways of writing and put them into our own stories.
This month we will be focusing on history for our social studies unit. We will talk about the past, present, and future. It wold be fun to share stories with your kids about what school or life was like when you were their age. If you visit grandparents or great-grandparents in the next month, it will be fun to hear what they have to say about the past too. We can learn so much from family and the kids love to hear stories about our past :) As part of our unit we will be talking about some important people in our past that helped shape the US.
The following pictures are from game day with our reading buddies, when our reading buddies read to us their nonfiction books, and from our celebration of 100's day, which was on Friday. The 100's chart shows that we read 100 books on Friday! Each book that someone read, they got to color in a number. The balloons were up when the kids came in the classroom. We popped them throughout the day to reveal what 100's day activity we would do next. It was tons of fun!!!
