There is not a whole lot of new information as far as curriculum goes, but here are some of the key points we are learning:
Math - continuing to work on solving and writing addition equations through the use of multiple strategies. These strategies include the use of pictures, dots, math mountains, a number sentence and counting on.
Reading - We are continuing to work on comprehension skills through the use of looking at the front cover and wondering what the book is going to be about, taking a picture walk, and retelling the story.
Writing - We are continuing to work on small moment stories and adding in details. We can add in details by zooming into the most important part of the story (usually the middle part).
This week is also fire prevention week and we will be talking about fire safety. This is a perfect time to go over your evacuation plan and meeting place outside your home with your family. We use this time not to scare the kids, but to help them feel good about having a plan and knowing there are ways to stay safe if there ever was a fire. This is also the time that I start having kids practice their phone number and address. I would love it if you could help me out by practicing this at home as well with your child.
Just a reminder that we do a morning snack at school and an afternoon snack as well. I always have extra snacks if someone forgets a morning snack.
If you have not turned in your conference slip yet, please do so asap. We will be scheduling these conferences next week. I am really looking forward to spending some time with you talking about your child :)
Lastly here are some pictures from our writers celebration as well as the football game Friday night. I did get a class picture with most of our kids and Brady, but I will try to get another one when everyone can be in it :) . I threw in a couple of pics of kids "being the one" in the classroom.
