I hope you all had a great weekend!
I am sure that most of the kiddos told you that our football tickets came!!! They were all super excited :) . I will be sending those home tomorrow so keep an eye out for that. Again, the football game is this Friday night. The kids are asked to meet me at 6:30 by the grass fields north of the football field. I am super excited for this opportunity for the kids to go on the football field and make a tunnel for the football players. I know that it will be a busy night so I have asked a few other adults to come and help keep the kids together. If you have any questions, please let me know.
I did get a few pictures of Brady working with some of the kids. They were making predictions about whether certain parts of an apple would sink or float. After their predictions, they tested it out to see whether their predictions were correct or not. All the kids got a chance to do this with Brady and they LOVED it!
We also took our math test last week and will begin our new unit this coming week. In math, the kids also take a unit pre-test. This pre-test is a place for me to see what the kids already know and it helps me to form math groups for a new unit. This is not graded, but the kids do graph the results of the pre-test and then graph the results of the unit test so they can see how much they have grown as a mathematician :) . My plan is to get math groups up and running in the next week or two.
In writing we are finishing up our first unit this week. We will be learning how to edit and fix our stories this week and then we will get a chance to fancy up our stories. We will have a small writers celebration on Friday. This will be a small snack and drink provided by me and the kids will be in small groups sharing their stories with each other. They deserve to celebrate and be proud of the hard work they have done. Our next unit will begin the next week.
In reading we are going to be moving into a new unit as well. It is really just an extension of what we have been learning in the first unit, but digging a bit deeper with everything.
I will be sending home a note this week looking for parent volunteers. I am looking for parents to come from 11:00-11:30 to do some reading with the kids. I totally understand that not all parents are able to volunteer and that is perfectly fine :)
We have our official snack time in the morning, but I know that towards the end of the day the kiddos are getting hungry again. I do let the kids eat another snack when we get back from specials (2:40). So, please feel free to send an extra snack for your child if you would like.
Have a great week!
