A couple highlights from our week was our writer's celebration and our classroom team building days. We have been working hard at writing our Small Moment stories and continuing to learn ways to improve our writing. This past week we took our favorite story and fixed (edited) and fancied it up. The kids enjoyed putting the final touches on their story and adding color to their pictures. We celebrated by having homemade cookies and listening to each other's stories.
In reading our overall theme will be figuring out words we don't know in our books using different strategies. We will focus on vowel sounds, blends, digraphs, and chunks. We will have lots of practice with these strategies in our reading as well as other activities this week to strengthen these strategies. Please continue to read at home with your child 20 minutes most days to continue this practice.
In writing we will focus on the big idea or main theme in our small moment story writing. We will discuss making sure we think of our big idea before we start writing and how to make sure that everything we write in our story is connected to that big idea.
In Science this week we will take a look at spiders and learn some fun and interesting facts about spiders through books, Scholastic News, a video, and by sharing what we already know about spiders.
I have received some parent volunteer forms. I have put together a schedule and will e-mail those parents who volunteered this week. If you would still like to volunteer, but haven't turned in the form yet you still can! Please just make sure it comes to school in the next few days.
Our Halloween party will be on Thursday, October 29 from 2:30 - 3:30. If you signed up to volunteer I will be e-mailing you this week with a reminder about what you signed up for. We, as a school, will be doing our parade to The Laurels again early afternoon. When I find out what time I will let you know. Kids may change into costumes for this parade and stay in them the rest of the day. Please make sure your child's costume is school appropriate (no weapons, blood, gore, etc.) They cannot come to school in their costume, but we will have plenty of time to change into them before the parade.
