It is so nice to be back into the routine of school and the kids are working their way back into this routine. This past week went by so quickly! We started quite a few new units and will be working through these over the next several weeks.
In reading we are beginning our non-fiction unit. In this unit we will be learning and discussing features of non-fiction texts (close-ups, index, table of contents, captions, etc.), seeing what we know and what we are wondering about our texts, finding the main idea of our texts, and discussing what we learned with our reading partners.
In writing we are learning how to write How To's. The kids will show us what they are experts in and teach us. They will be learning how to write detailed steps and why that is important and how to write introductions and conclusions.
In social studies we will begin learning about maps; including how to read maps, where we live and how to adapt to our environment, and our addresses. The kids will need to know their address and will be tested on this for the report card. Please help your child at home with this. We will be able to spend some time in the classroom learning it as well.
In math we are continuing our unit on adding and subtracting teen numbers, adding double digit and single digit numbers, and learning strategies such as doubles, doubles plus and minus one and doubles plus and minus two.
Have a great week!
