I hope that you all had a wonderful Easter with your families! I also hope you were able to get outside and enjoy some of this warmer weather we are having.
We had a great week back from Spring Break! The kids got right back into the swing of things and they picked up where we left off, working hard. On Friday we had a Park cleanup and all the kids in the school worked together to get the school grounds looking so great! Your kids all worked so hard picking up pine cones and sticks. I got some pictures, but I didn't end up capturing all the kiddos - sorry! Just know that they all worked so hard and had fun doing it :)
We have started some new units since we got back from break. In science we are talking about the weather and how the weather affects us. We started by talking about the sun and we will also learn about clouds, wind, and severe weather. We are going to start a plant experiment this week as well. We will see why plants need sun and what happens when they don't get that sunshine.
In math we are learning about telling time to the hour and half hour. We will study this over the next couple of days and then move on to shapes, which will include halves and fourths.
In writing we have started our poetry unit and the kids are really having fun with this. We started with acrostic poems using our names and this week we will take a nature walk to see what things we can find to write poems about. This unit is a shorter unit.
In reading we will continue to learn about topics across genres. This is where we understand that we can read about a topic over several different types of genres. The topic we are covering right now is habitats.
A few dates:
Parents club meeting - Tuesday, April 18 at 9:00 am
Park Artists reception - Thursday, April 20 from 5:30 - 7:00 at City Hall
On Thursday I will send home a note about our Field Trip to the zoo. This will also include a form to sign and return with payment for your child. Please know that anyone is welcome to come on this field trip - we don't have a maximum number of adults (or younger siblings) that are allowed to come :)
Enjoy your week!
