You may be hearing your child talk about "Super Switch," or hear that they are working with another teacher a couple different times throughout the day. Super Switch happens once in the morning where our focus is reading and once in the afternoon where our focus is math. During these 1/2 hour times, we take all of the first graders and divide them up into six groups. We are very fortunate to have three amazing para pros (teacher aides) helping us during these times to make six groups. During this time, we have more focused work centered on the individual/group needs of students. This isn't to say I don't teach to the individual needs of your child throughout the rest of the day. It's just at our Super Switch time, the groups are smaller and grouped based on what skills need to have more practice. If you have any questions about this, please let me know.
This week we will be taking our first math test. It will cover what they have been practicing in their homework - finding partners of numbers and simple addition and subtraction problems. There will be one word problem on the test that we will practice this week. We spent some time practicing their partners on Friday with a fun Turkey making activity - even though it is not quite November :) Hopefully you got to see these cute turkeys this weekend!
Have a great week!
