I can't believe how quickly this week went by! We had a great week here at school and continued working our way through our current units.
In reading we have continued with our character unit and the kids are really working at getting a deeper understanding of the characters in their books. It has been really enjoyable listening to their conversations :)
You may have noticed some letters written by your child come home. As I let you know earlier, we are writing our opinion/persuasive letters and the kids have written some of you. If you would like, you can write a letter back to your child :) We will continue this unit at the beginning of this week and then wrap it up at the end of this week. We will take a break from writing after this week and pick up again after Christmas.
In math we talked about >,<,=. We compared single digit numbers as well as double digit numbers. The kids did really well with this and are comfortable with knowing which symbol to use. Next we will be concentrating on learning that double digit numbers are made up of 10's and 1's. This will lead us up to Christmas break.
Speaking of Christmas, I will be sending out an e-mail tomorrow to those who have volunteered for our Christmas party. Our Christmas party will be on December 18 at 2:30. Anyone is welcome to attend :)
Our Christmas Concert will be on the 15th and more specific information will be coming home later this week.
Hopefully you all were able to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather we had this weekend! I told the kids their homework this weekend was to get outside and play, get plenty of rest, and read, read, read.
I am excited to share with you that we will be celebrating Christmas Around the World in the classroom this week and next. I have created a slide show for the kids and we have some activities we will be doing too. If you have any interesting information or objects from other countries that you would be willing to share that would be great! I know that sending some objects to school maybe won't be the best idea, but if you would be willing to send a picture that would be great! The countries we will be talking about are Mexico, Sweden, Italy, Netherlands, and Germany. We will also talk about Hanukkah. But, if you have traditions to share from other countries I would love to hear about those and include it in our talks.
Thanks!
